So out of no where to atoms raced towards each other in space and hit each other? Who made the atoms? Who made the thing that made the atoms? Just to many questions to be answered with smashing two atoms together.

I will reiterate my own comment, the universe was not created from atoms (thus scientists don't want to know 'how the "atoms" created our universe"), atoms were created from the universe, you've got it backwards bud.

The atoms themselves have nothing to do with the creation of the universe. They are just tools to create the high energies that were present at the beginning of the universe. The byproducts of these energies are particles that cannot exist today in a low energy universe.
